Designated Charity 2012 – Finnz Fundz

Finnz Fundz
is run by Kerry and Patrick Burns of the RI Parrotheads.  Kerry and Patrick lost their son Finnegan to Cystic Fibrosis (CF).  Finnegan was diagnosed with CF at birth.  He thrived in all areas until he was hospitalized in intensive care in February 2008.  Kerry and Patrick took temporary leaves of absence from their jobs to be with Finnegan during his 13-month hospitalization.  They eventually lost their jobs and were unable to make any real money.  Through the kindness of friends,  family and strangers they received much needed financial and emotional support.  But in the end, they lost their home to foreclosure and sold most of their possessions…ultimately filing for bankruptcy.

Kerry Burns, Director of Finnz Fundz states, “No family should have to decide whether or not they can be with their child at their most needy and vulnerable time due to financial worries.”

The goal of Finnz Funds is to provide direct financial support to children and families fighting Cystic Fibrosis and facing the often common long term hospitalizataions that occur in fighting this disease.  Kerry Burns states, “While there are organizations that provide excellent funding for research into the disease and the development of new treatments, we were unable to find an organization that provided direct financial contributions to families; we can hope to fill that gap.”

Finnz Funds reaches families through an established network of Cystic Fibrosis care centers, focusing initial efforts in the New England Region.
